City council moves forward with Lansdowne proposal
Posted Nov 27, 2009 By Shad QadriEMC News - As you may be aware, city council has voted to conditionally proceed with the Lansdowne Partnership Plan (LPP), I was one of the 15 council members to vote in support of the proposal.
Following three days of discussions, debates and public presentations, council voted to conditionally approve the LPP provided a set of six criteria are met to the satisfaction of council.
The criteria are as follows: completion of a final review of financial projections, including analysis by the Auditor General, completion of transportation studies to determine that the transportation strategy will work as anticipated, establish a design review for the development of a Master Site Plan, execute an independent third-party review of the two different market studies concerning the commercial plan, initiate a Request for Expressions of Interest for the construction and operation of a Trade and Consumer Show facility in Ottawa, initiate a design competition for the "front yard," which also includes the Ottawa Farmers' Market, Horticultural Building and the Aberdeen Pavilion, assist the Central Canada Exhibition Association (CCEA) in completing the business and logistical plans necessary for the CCEA's move to a new location on Albion Road following the exhibition in 2010.
In June 2010, staff will report back to council with the results of the six criteria. Council will then vote on whether or not to proceed with the project agreement.
If approved, work on the final design and construction of the project would begin in March 2011 and be completed by May 2014.
CHRISTMAS CARD CONTEST OPENS TO CHILDREN
As Christmas is fast-approaching, I am once again ho-ho-holding my Christmas Card Contest for children in our community.
I encourage your children to express their artistic and creative side through festive, holiday cheer. Winning submissions will be on display for thousands of people to enjoy this holiday season, as your artwork will be prominently featured on the front of my office's Christmas e-card. Great prizes are also available for the winners.
A team of judges will choose a total of four designs from the three different categories. Two designs will be chosen in the age group of up to 6 years old, one design from an artist age seven to 10 and one from age 10 to 13.
When working on your art, please ensure you do not use glitter paints or stickers, as it must be suitable to copy onto the front of the Christmas cards.
Please submit your child's entry no later than noon on Dec. 10 to Councillor Shad Qadri, 110 Laurier Ave. W, Ottawa, ON, K1P 1J1, or drop-off your creation to my ward office, located in the Goulbourn Recreation Complex, 1500 Shea Rd., Mondays and Fridays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesdays from 1 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
THE EVENT OF THE SEASON
Stittsville's annual festive parade is just days away!
The Parade of Lights, organized by the Stittsville Village Association, occurs on Nov. 28 and kicks off with the parade at 7:30 p.m. Dozens of floats featuring businesses, community organizations and associations and prominent members of the community will wind their way through the heart of the community along Stittsville Main Street.
Santa will once again ride high atop a fire truck provided by the Stittsville Fire Station. When Santa arrives at the Village Square Park, the trees will be lit up marking the start of the festive season. The lights will remain on for the duration of the season.
Hot beverages will be served and the SVA encourages you and your family to join in singing some holiday favourites.

VACCINATION CLINICS OPEN TO GENERAL PUBLIC
Please be advised that effective immediately, H1N1 vaccination clinics are open to the general public.
Clinic locations, schedules and wait times are available at www.ottawa.ca/health and can also be obtained by calling 311. There is a clinic scheduled for Nov. 27 from 2:30 until 8:30 p.m. at the Stittsville and District Community Centre, provided there is a sufficient supply of vaccine. Visit the city's website to ensure the clinic will proceed.
Both the adjuvanted and the unadjuvanted vaccine will be available at the clinics.
The limited supply of unadjuvanted vaccine will be primarily offered to pregnant women and healthy people between age 10 and 64 years of age. For people with chronic medical conditions and younger children, the adjuvanted vaccine is recommended to provide the optimal immune response.
People in the following groups are asked to identify themselves to city staff when they arrive at vaccination clinics as these individuals will be expedited: health care workers, pregnant women, people with physical disabilities and children coming for their second dose.
The wristband policy is also still in effect. For clinics beginning at 2:30 p.m., the wristbands will be distributed at 9 a.m. The wristbands are single-use and colour-coded and are good for the day.
