Singers from Kiwanis Music Festival to participate in vocal workshop led by NAC principal Pops conductor
Posted Feb 5, 2010 By EMC NewsEMC Entertainment - He's worked on Broadway, on Disney films and in the White House, and now he's ready to work with young performers from the Kiwanis Music Festival National Capital Region!
Jack Everly, a world-class composer, arranger, pianist and principal Pops conductor with symphonies in Baltimore, Indianapolis, Naples and Ottawa's own National Arts Centre Orchestra is in town for special performances of Guys and Dolls in-concert with the NAC Orchestra and Broadway stars on Feb. 4, 5 and 6.
On Feb. 6, 2010, Everly will lead a special vocal workshop for Cappies participants and their teachers from 1-3 p.m. in Rehearsal Hall A at the NAC. Working with young singers from the Kiwanis Music Festival - NCR, Everly will coach Kiwanis performers in show repertoire on everything from voice and diction to interpretation and performance. The following music festival performers have been selected to participate: Kodi Cannon - 21, Sydney Haslam - 16, Paula Berry - 16, Tzeitel Abrego - 17, Adrian Zeyl - 19, and Stuart Alldritt - 16.
Each year, amazing young musicians, singers and musical theatre performers compete for prizes and scholarships in the Kiwanis Music Festival - National Capital Region, held during the month of April at 11 different venues in the City of Ottawa.
In 2010, the festival will celebrate its "65th Anniversary" and will welcome more than 10,000 young performers, competing in 175 classes. More than $50,000 in scholarships will be awarded.
Top performers move on to provincial and national competitions. Festival alumni include such artists as: Alison Smyth ("Jersey Boys" - Toronto), Steffi Didomenicantonio (on tour in "Spring Awakening"), Michael Torontow ("The Light in the Piazza" - opening soon in Toronto).
