EMC News - Twenty-five members of the Oncology department staff at CHEO are lucky winners in the ninth Canadian Cancer Society Lottery in Ontario.

Congratulations to Jean Milne and her colleagues from Medical D Unit who have won $10,000.

"Congratulations to our winners and thank you to everyone who bought a ticket in this year's lottery," says Dr. Kristin Baetz of University of Ottawa, a cancer researcher funded by the Canadian Cancer Society. "Your support means more funding for promising cancer research, which will lead to better prevention, early detection, treatment and cancer care. We all benefit from research funded by the Canadian Cancer Society."

The winners are a group of oncology nurses, case managers and secretaries who have purchased tickets previously, but have not won until this year. Their six tickets actually won three prizes this time, the major prize of $10,000 and two of $100 apiece. These co-workers are very aware of the great improvements in cancer treatments as a result of research conducted in recent years. "Working with children with cancer all the time, we are aware of how much things have changed for the better over the past twenty years," says Milne.

Since 2001, the Canadian Cancer Society Lottery has raised more than $30 million for cancer research.
