University of Guelph-Kemptville Campus College Royal set for March 4-6

EMC Events - The school year is quickly drawing to a close for Kemptville Campus University of Guelph students. You would not know it however, if you look around the campus. Students are gearing up for the biggest event of the year, the 83nd annual College Royal.

University of Guelph-Kemptville Campus College Royal continues growing the tradition once again in 2010. The committee has been hard at work organizing events and activities to be enjoyed by an estimated 2,000 visitors. The College Royal is an event open to the public on the days of March 5 and 6, with events including student milking, dog and horse relay, calf sale, and much more.

This year the Royal will be hosting the 5th annual College Classic Calf sale on March 5 in the A.M. Barr arena, with an open house to showcase the calves on March 4 from 6-8 p.m.

Kemptville College Foundation is pleased to once again hold a pancake breakfast on Saturday, March 6 from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The foundation will be accepting donations for the breakfast, last year the breakfast raised over $1,500. The breakfast will be held at the Agro forestry centre of the campus, located on Bedell Road, just off Leeds-Grenville County road 44 south of the main campus.

4-H members have been invited to join students from the college in showing dairy heifers and sheep. Students will also be demonstrating their abilities at showing beef.

Equine students will be participating in a variety of horse shows such as Western and English. Horse shows will be taking place in the A.M. Barr arena on campus. A Dog and Horse Relay will be taking place there as well on Saturday afternoon. The Kemptville Koyotes Polo Club will be putting on a demonstration in the A.M. Barr Arena on Friday.

The Power and Equipment building will again be hosting its P&E games as well as having equipment on display. The Food & Nutrition program will be holding a chili cook off and have a booth in the arena showcasing some of their work from this year.

The College Royal is a fun and exciting time for people of all ages, with the main activities around the A.M. Barr arena where kids activities will also be taking place, which include a petting zoo, and face painting. Everyone is invited to the 2010 College Royal.
