EMC News - OCRI, Ottawa's lead economic development agency, announced the 34 finalists for the 2010 OCRI Awards.

The OCRI Awards gala on Thursday, April 8 at the Hilton Lac Leamy, is the premier awards event for the region's business, research and academic community. The annual event recognizes the achievements of some of the most successful organizations and individuals in Ottawa.

This year, five new categories expand the recognition to include health research, innovation and youth entrepreneurship. Six Ottawa businesses, five individuals and one secondary school will be recognized for excellence in the following categories: Company of the Year, Next Generation Executive of the Year, Strategic Partnership, Most Promising Start-Up, Product of the Year, Service of the Year, Research, Health Innovation, and the OCRI Futures Awards including Student Researcher of the Year, Student Entrepreneur of the Year and High School Innovation. In addition, the Fastest Growing Bootstrap Start-up Award will be presented to the organization with significant top-line growth. Seven finalists were named at the Bootstrap awards breakfast held on February 12th.

This year, 86 nominations for 11 categories were received. Nominations were judged by a committee from the Society of Collaborative Opportunities and Advancement of Professionals (SCOAP).

"The outstanding submissions made the decision making process quite challenging for the committee. The sheer number of success stories that are profiled in these entries clearly indicates that Ottawa continues to produce world-class technology and innovation," said Claude Haw, President and CEO of OCRI. "On behalf of the selection committee and our vibrant knowledge-based community, I would like to congratulate all of the nominees for their hard work and commitment to excellence."
