EMC News - A fire that broke out in a century-old home at 6084 Perth St. on Saturday morning claimed the life of a 68 year-old Richmond woman.

The fire started around 8:30 a.m. with 20 trucks and 45 personnel working the scene. Fire officials arrived at the scene by 8:40 a.m.

The road, between Cockburn Street and Huntley Road, was closed for most of Saturday as fire personnel battled the blaze and secured the scene.

Firefighters found the body of Danielle Latour inside the home after fighting the fire for two hours. It was reported by fire officials that the fire is believed to have started in a second-floor bedroom and subsequently spreading to the rest of the house.

The fire caused an estimated $250,000 in damages and is expected to be demolished. Neighbours reported that 68-year old Latour was the only resident of the home.

A cause for the fire had not been determined by press time, but the Ontario Fire Marshal's office will reportedly be assisting the Ottawa fire department in the investigation. This is a standard procedure if there is a fatality.
