Three days, three games, three wins for Royals

EMC Sports - It was a triple header for the Stittsville Royals this past weekend.

Three games in three days for the Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League team.

But this might be a scheduling recipe that the Royals like because it resulted in three wins.

The Royals doubled the score on the visiting Shawville Pontiacs at the Goulbourn Recreation Complex in Stittsville last Sunday afternoon, winning 8-4.

The Royals were ahead 2-1 after the first period but then fell behind 4-3 going into the third period. That's when a five goal outburst sealed the deal and the 8-4 win for the Royals.

The Royals outshot the Pontiacs 18-6 in this final period.

Matt Kadolph scored two goals for the Royals in this five goal third period outburst. Other Royals goals went to Neill Penner with his second of the game, Alex Hulford on a shorthanded effort and Travis Brown.

Other scorers for the Royals in this game were Johnny Smith and Ben Swan.

Picking up assists in this game for the Royals were Greg Harding with two, Ty Fleming, Alex Morton, Scott Barnes, Broc Beehler, Kyle Drisdelle, Justin Mayo and Ryan Dube.

Erik Miksik stopped 34 of 38 Shawville shots in the Royals net.

On Saturday night at the Almonte Community Centre arena, the Royals doused the hometown Almonte Thunder with a 6-1 victory.

The Royals led 1-0 after one period and 2-0 after two periods, followed by a four goal onslaught in the third period to end up with a 6-1 victory.

Scott Barnes scored three goals for the Royals in this game while other Royals scorers were Matt Kadolph, Jake Oliver and Ty Fleming.

Matt Kadolph picked up two assists in the game as did Kyle O'Brien. Other assists went to Justin Mayo, Ty Fleming, Ryan Dube and Travis Brown.

The Stittsville Royals started off the weekend and its three games in three days schedule with a 4-1 win over the Shawville Pontiacs in Shawville on Friday night, Jan. 27.

The Royals led all the way in this game: 1-0 after the first period, 2-0 after the second period and 4-1 at the end of the game.

Brock Jessop scored two goals for the Royals in this game, while Matt Kadolph and Justin Mayo picked up single markers.

Greg Harding, Kyle Drisdelle, Ryan Dube, Jake Oliver, Matt Kadolph and Scott Barnes all picked up assists for the Royals in this game.

The Royals were outshot in the game, with the Pontiacs directing 33 shots at the Stittsville net while the Royals had 21 shots at the Shawville goal.

Karsten Pankhurst in the Royals net stopped 32 of the 33 shots directed his way.

The Stittsville Royals are now in a tie for fourth place in the Valley Division of the league, even with the Renfrew Timberwolves, with both team shaving 27 points. The Arnprior Packers lead with 57 points, followed by the Perth Blue Wings with 42 points.

The Stittsville Royals, after 34 games, have 12 wins, 19 losses and 3 ties.

The Stittsville Royals will host the visiting Valley Division leading Arnprior Packers this Sunday, Feb. 5 at 2:30 p.m. at the Goulbourn Recreation Complex on Shea Road in Stittsville.
