Family/Heritage Day at Museum
Posted Feb 16, 2012 By John CurryEMC Events - You can celebrate Family Day combined with Heritage Day this coming Monday, Feb. 20 at the Goulbourn Museum at Stanley's Corners.
The Museum is holding a joint celebration marking both Family Day and Heritage Day with an event running from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
It will feature the launch of the Museum's newest exhibit entitled "Goulbourn township's Pioneers." It will highlight photographs and artefacts from each of Goulbourn's communities such as Stittsville, Richmond, Munster and Ashton.
You will be able to learn about how the pioneers cleared the trees from the forest landscape and how they build their homes with their hand tools. You will also learn how pioneers collected the ashes from burnt wood and traded them, a basic ingredient in potash, for basic supplies.
The other two good things about this upcoming Family Day/Heritage Day celebration are that it is free and light refreshments will be served. You just can't go wrong in attending.
Of course, the Goulbourn Museum always welcomes donations to help it with its work of preserving and displaying the history and heritage of the Goulbourn area.
The Goulbourn Museum is located on Huntley Road at Flewellyn Road at Stanley's Corners just south of Stittsville. Huntley Road is an extension of Stittsville Main Street. For more information, visit www.goulbournmuseum.ca , call 613-831-2393 or email education@goulbournmuseum.ca.
