Possible major capital projects in Richmond

EMC News - A band shell. A shade shelter. A skateboard park.

These are three possibilities for a major capital project which might be undertaken in Richmond to commemorate the village's 200th anniversary in the year 2018.

All three projects were suggested during a discussion of possible city of Ottawa funding for such projects at the Richmond Village Association's meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

There is some city grant funding available but it also relies on community fundraising for half of the amount involved.

A shade shelter, which is something like a band stand with a sheltered area on a concrete pad, costs around $25,000.

A skateboard park would have a price tag of around $40,000. This would involve temporary ramps which would require storage in the off-season. However, maintenance costs would be the responsibility of the city once the facility is in place.

It was suggested that Lions Park would probably be the best location for such a skateboard facility.
